Both Jesus and Buddha taught that our greatest purpose on Earth was to improve our ability to love. Ideally, love should be unconditional, unselfish, forgiving, fearless, deep, universal, etc., but such love is very difficult to attain. In this brief paper, I give two important reasons why it is, and two great spiritual ways for achieving it.
Love, ideally, is unconditional. Unfortunately, however, love is often conditional for most people, and that's largely because of the human tendency to negatively criticize and judge others, at times. I wrote this paper because I wanted people to be more aware of how damaging criticism and judgement are to their self-development and relationships.
Self-motivated and Sometimes Selfish
Love, ideally, is unselfish. We all,
at times, are too self-motivated and, sometimes, selfish, and when we are,
we usually don't realize it. We often are not aware of when we're
behaving and giving in order to receive what we need and desire.
Being unconsciously self-motivated or selfish are major causes of problems
in relationships, and they greatly limit
our personal growth and spiritual progress, so we must become more
aware of, and eliminate, them.
